FamilyMade Tips & Tricks for Travel ✈️
Manage Expectations: Understand that things might not go perfectly, and that’s okay. Stay patient and calm.
Choose the Right Flight: book flights during times that align with your child's nap or sleep schedule where possible.
Entertainment: Bring books, tablets with headphones, coloring books with markers, small puzzles, or other quiet activities to keep them occupied.
Takeoff and Landing: Encourage kids to suck on a pacifier, drink from a bottle or sippy cup or chew gum to help with ear pressure.
Seat Selection: If possible, choose seats near the aisle for easier access to the bathroom. Or, if traveling with another person, book an aisle and a window seat, leaving the middle open—there’s a chance it will stay empty.
Walk Around: If the flight is long, take occasional walks up and down the aisle to help kids burn off extra energy.
Snacks: Bring a variety of snacks to keep them happy and occupied. Even better, bring snacks they rarely get at home!
Routine: Try to maintain parts of their nap or bedtime routine if possible but don’t put too much pressure on yourself.
Delays and Cancellations: Prepare for possible delays by packing extra diapers, toys and snacks. Keep contact numbers for airlines and hotels handy.
Be flexible: Sometimes plans change, so be flexible and ready to adjust your strategy when needed!
When All Else Fails…Tape For The Win!
Have any painter’s tape (or really any lightly adhesive tape) laying around the house? Bring it with you on the plane and let your kids rip off small pieces and stick them to the window, seat or tray. They’re super easy to peel off, mess-free and will guarantee at least 30 minutes of simple fun for your little ones! You’re welcome 😉 |
