  • Pumpkins Are Actually Fruits: Though often considered a vegetable, pumpkins are classified as fruits because they contain seeds.

  • Pumpkins Are Native to North America: Pumpkins have been growing in North America for over 5,000 years, with seeds found in Mexico dating back to 7,500 BC.

  • There Are Over 45 Varieties of Pumpkins: They can be orange, yellow, white, green, blue, or even multi-colored!

  • Pumpkins Are 90% Water: Even though they’re heavy, pumpkins are actualy mostly water. They’re low in calories but still nutrient-rich, packed with vitamins A, C, and fiber.

  • The World’s Largest Pumpkin was over 2,000 lbs! The heaviest pumpkin ever to be recorded weighed 2,749 pounds and was grown by a farmer in Italy in 2021.

  • The Name “Pumpkin”is Greek: The word "pumpkin" originated from the Greek word "pepon," which means "large melon." It was later adapted by the French into "pompon," then by the British into "pumpion," and finally became "pumpkin" in American English- who knew!
