Shawn's Daily Summer Schedule For The Whole Family☀️ (Structured + Flexible)

Shawn's sharing hour by hour what their days look like over the summer in hopes of inspiring you to set some loose structure to your days too! 🤭

☀️ Why a Loose Summer Schedule is a Game-Changer for Parents & Kids Alike

Summer is here (YAY!) which means sunshine, popsicles, and... total chaos if we’re not careful 😅 While it’s tempting to go full blown “go with the flow” mode, having a loose summer schedule can be a game-changer for everyone in the house. Just a little rhythm goes a long way ❤️

It’s been proven that kids thrive with a bit of structure. And for parents, a simple plan can help reduce the stress you feel to fill each day with unlimited hours of summer fun 😅

Less stress, more fun, and smoother days all around …what parent doesn’t want that?!

“Now that we’re back from our family adventures abroad, it’s time to get back in the swing of things with a loose daily schedule! The key for creating summer structure is creating simple rhythms rather than a tight, unrealistic schedule that will leave you feeling disappointed. You need just enough structure to keep your sanity and enough freedom to enjoy the magic of summer as a family.”

FamilyMade Tips on Creating Flexible (But Reliable) Summer Rhythms ☀️

  1. Set consistent wake-up times and bedtimes - Even if it's not exact, having a general window helps keep sleep patterns (and moods!) steady all day

  2. Create simple morning and evening routines - Brush teeth, eat breakfast, get dressed in the morning and later: eat dinner, take a bath, read books. These little habits give the day a shape

  3. Use themed days to add fun and added structure - Examples: Water Wednesday (pool or splash pad), Field Trip Friday (go somewhere new) etc.

  4. Try not to plan more than one “main activity” per day - Filling the day with too many activities can leave you feeling exhausted. Summer is supposed to be FUN so space out those bigger activities

  5. Keep meal and snack times predictable - This can help prevent all-day snacking and/or whining for the next meal

  6. Involve your kids in the planning - Let them choose an activity or themed day each week—it makes them excited for the summer days ahead

  7. Build in quiet time or rest time daily - Everyone can benefit from a little downtime, especially over the summer. Pull out a book, puzzle or allow your kids to have quiet playtime

  8. Leave room for Flexibility - Some of the best summer memories come from last minute ideas not added to the schedule!

Fun day with the kids!
