Shawn Opens Up About Postpartum Depression❤️

In a recent episode of their podcast, Shawn and Andrew share their personal experience with postpartum depression after baby #3

Postpartum Depression Isn’t Something to be Ashamed Of ❤️

Shawn and Andrew recently opened up about their personal experience with postpartum depression after having their third child back in December.

In this emotional new episode of their podcast, Couple Things, the Easts shared the joys and struggles of walking through the early months following birth.

“I felt like I was neglecting myself while trying to put in so much effort to take care of my son that I was actually making myself worse. I had all these people and doctors trying to help me figure out what was wrong and in my mind I could tell something was off. There were all these thoughts of, “Something isn’t right,” but I felt there was zero room to take care of me at the time. Sometimes I just wanted to cuddle up in the corner and say, “somebody help me” but I needed to help him.”

Let’s Look at Some Stats

  • 1 in 7 women may experience postpartum depression in the year after giving birth.

  • With approximately 4 million live births occurring annually in the United States, this equates to almost 600,000 people diagnosed with PPD

  • Postpartum depression generally lasts 3 to 6 months. However, this can vary. If symptoms last only two weeks it’s typically considered “the baby blues”

  • Some studies have shown that rates of postpartum depression in adoptive parents can be comparable to rates in biological mothers due to the stresses of becoming a new parent

  • Approximately 10% of new fathers experience symptoms of depression during the postpartum period as well
