Mom Guilt, Let's Be Honest About It...😵💫
Shawn feels mom guilt just like the rest of us and she's here to help you stop the spiral 😵💫
Parenting is MESSY Beautiful ❤️
Let’s be real for a second…in 30 seconds flat you can go from feeling like Supermom to wondering how many PB&J’s are acceptable to feed your child in a week.
At FamilyMade, we’re all about keeping it real, celebrating the mess, and reminding you that you’re not alone. Whether you’re juggling toddlers, teens, or an age in between, we see you. You’re showing up, and you’re enough!
This week, we’re diving into something we all feel but rarely talk about: Mom Guilt.
Mom Guilt: The Uninvited & Overstaying Guest In Our Heads 🚫
Does This Sound familiar…
You scroll Instagram and see a mom making fresh, organic, star-shaped homemade fruit snacks (amazing, by the way!)
Meanwhile, your kid is having a gourmet meal of microwave mac and cheese...again because you’re balancing so much it’s the best you could do today.
You start to spiral and feel guilty thinking, “I should be making that but instead I have to xyz…”
Here’s your reminder: your love is more important than your kid’s gourmet lunchbox. Our kids don’t need perfect, they need present. And they already have that in YOU ❤️
Shawn’s Tips to Combat the Spiral 🌀 😵💫
Reframe the narrative. When guilt pops up, pause and ask: Is this truth or pressure? Usually it’s the second one 😉
Celebrate small wins. Got everyone dressed (even if the clothes don’t match)? That’s a victory! You brushed your kids’ teeth without a meltdown? Gold medal!
Phone a friend. Text another mom and share the chaos. 10/10 chance she’s in it too and it’s helpful to know you’re not alone
Practice grace over perfection. Your kids don’t need a perfect mom, they need a present one. Give yourself permission to be human and make mistakes.
Stop the comparison trap. Scrolling social media? Remember: you’re seeing a highlight reel, not the behind-the-scenes of someone’s real life.
Do one thing for you each day. Whether it’s a hot shower, five quiet minutes, a workout or an iced coffee, you can’t pour out from an empty cup ❤️
You Asked, Shawn Answered ❤️
Alyssa (33) Fort Meyers, FL asked “I want to know how Shawn keeps up with all the mom things while also working full time. Some weeks I can’t keep it together and it leaves me feeling major mom guilt for having a messy house or throwing together a mediocre dinner for my family. Any tips?”
“Nobody has it all together! Some weeks my house looks like total chaos and we’re eating Chick-fil-a for dinner and other weeks I feel accomplished and spend an hour cooking a new recipe. Each week is different so give yourself grace, you’re balancing SO much and doing an amazing job. Whenever I’m starting to feel mom guilt creep in after a crazy week, I try to free up some extra space in my calendar for just me and the kids to do something special: go grab ice cream, do chalk outside, read extra books before bed etc. Busy weeks make me want to be even more intentional about creating special memories with them.”
Before You Go... You’re doing better than you think. Your kids need the real, beautiful, tired, superhero that you already are❤️
